Reporting to the CFO and Vice President of Administration, the Director, Risk & Safety is responsible for developing and managing a variety of functions and processes that manage and mitigate the University’s exposure to risk. As a key member of the team, this individual will contribute to the overall leadership of institutional risk, security, emergency management, occupational health and safety programs and provide input into the overall goals, objectives and operations within each of these areas. Specifically, the Director, Risk & Safety is responsible for the development of UFV’s risk management frameworks and systems and for case management of various legal and contractual issues.
The ideal candidate is an astute professional who brings a strong enterprise risk management approach, rather than simply a focus on controls. Seven to ten years of experience within a large, complex organization and an ability to think strategically and execute policy and procedures will be key to the success of the Director, Risk & Safety. A true collaborator, the ideal candidate is multi-faceted, balancing facilitation with problem-solving and a drive for best practices. The ability to inspire others to streamline functions, find efficiencies and work cross-departmentally will be cornerstones for success in this exciting role. In addition, you bring outstanding consensus- and team-building skills and have a history of success in achieving buy-in from stakeholders and moving initiatives forward through influence. Finally, you are known to be fair and equitable; to exercise good judgment on all issues; and to possess the presence, stature and knowledge to build credibility throughout the entire University.
