Job Description

University of Ottawa

Dean, Faculty of Medicine

The University of Ottawa is the largest bilingual (English-French) university in the world. Located at the heart of Canada’s capital, we have ready access to many of the great institutions of our country. Our advances in health, social sciences, engineering, science and the humanities make uOttawa a unique place to learn, grow and excel.

The Faculty of Medicine is the only bilingual medical faculty in Canada, and is committed to excellence in education, health research and patient care, and attuned to the needs of the local and global communities it serves. With a focus on excellence, the Faculty was built on the twin missions of education and research and is now a nationally recognized leader, ranked among Canada’s top-tier medical faculties.

The University of Ottawa now seeks to appoint a Dean of the Faculty of Medicine to lead the Faculty and, as a member of the senior administration of the University, share responsibility for the overall management of the Institution. Reporting to the Vice-President, Academic and Provost, the next Dean will be a respected scholar, experienced administrator and a strong leader with a compelling vision for an elite bilingual medical faculty.

Through the creation and dissemination of scientific knowledge and expertise, our researchers, clinicians and students work not only to address society’s growing health care needs in a wide range of biomedical areas, but also in the delivery of high quality healthcare and to improve services such as detection, prevention, diagnosis and treatment. The Faculty is now recognized as a national and world leader in medical education and research for these efforts, and our students graduate with the skills and experience necessary to expertly address the health care needs of a global population. As one of Canada’s leading research-intensive institutions, the uOttawa Faculty of Medicine has a long history of conducting the highest quality basic and clinical research, much of which is conducted in partnership with affiliated teaching hospitals and research institutes. These partnerships lead to biomedical discoveries that have a significant impact on health care in Canada and around the world.
