Job Description

The MacEwan University Health Centre is a new state-of-the-art primary care clinic located in downtown Edmonton focused on the Patient-Centered Medical Home model which provides patient-centered, comprehensive, coordinated, and accessible care based on the patient’s needs. As a full time clinic manager you will call upon your leadership and problem solving skills as you provide clinical and managerial expertise to a dynamic team of medical professionals and staff.  With responsibility for supervising, directing, and organizing over 35 clinical and administrative staff, your focus will be on achieving the best possible outcomes while maintaining appropriate staffing levels and staff competency through daily support, supervision and guidance. You will act as a liaison between the Board and staff members, as well as the physicians and other health professionals who work at the clinic. You will also work in coordination with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that the patient-centered experience meets or exceeds expectations.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Lead a clinic operations management team and report to the Board of Directors as required
  • Responsible for Human resource management and leadership of non-physician staff in the clinic
  • Collaborate with physicians and others to develop expanded scope primary care nurse and medical assistant role descriptions
  • Develop and maintain policies, practices, and procedures to monitor and manage risk and liability
  • With others, establish clinical and academic performance metrics, provide feedback, and produce reports for stakeholders
  • Oversee clinic communication initiatives
  • Initiate, liaise and maintain medical equipment and supply contracts. Maintain a professional working relationship with all vendors for equipment, supplies and services
  • Develop other clinical and administrative job descriptions
  • Assess and align staffing needs to meet clinic requirements. Interview, hire and oversee staff training
  • Coach and mentor staff as required
  • Ensure that staff have the appropriate training and educational resources required to perform their duties
  • Keep employee records current and mentor clinic supervisors in human resource matters
  • Lead the Clinic Stakeholder Committee


  • A recognized degree in Business, Health Sciences, or health administration is preferred
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in managing human resources and related administration experience, with a broad in-depth knowledge of applicable policies and practices
  • Management expertise in a health care setting is required. Experience in primary care clinics or networks preferred
  • Ability to manage a diverse team-based workforce with multiple work units
  • Experience in conflict resolution, negotiation and mediation
  • Demonstrated leadership ability
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills
  • Ability to work under pressure, balance priorities, and meet deadlines
