Green Acres Foundation is a not-for-profit organization and management body established by Ministerial Order by the Province of Alberta to provide affordable supportive housing to seniors of the City of Lethbridge, the County of Lethbridge, and the Towns of Picture Butte, Coaldale, and Coalhurst, as well as the Villages of Nobleford and Barons. We have been providing affordable homes for independent senior citizens in Southern Alberta since 1960; today we are one of the largest providers of seniors housing in the province.

Job Description

Main Purpose/Scope:

This is an out of scope position reporting to, and working closely with, the Lodge Manager. The Care Supervisor leads, motivates, mentors, and trains a multi-disciplinary team to provide personal care and health services that support a home-like environment for the residents.


Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Create a resident/family-centered environment that maximizes residents' dignity, independence, privacy, freedom of choice, and decision-making in a home-like environment through effective communication with residents, their family members, Home Care, and management
  • Developing and maintaining professional, supportive resident relationships while exemplifying Foundation principles 
  • Ensure that day-to-day care/health service provisions comply with applicable legislation, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures
  • Provide leadership to care staff in a unionized environment with regard to professional nursing practice standards and personal care provision standards
  • Manage, assign, and supervise care staff within the scope of the Collective Agreement 
  • Meet with the site Manager regularly to ensure ongoing communication
  • Direct and manage all staff groups in the absence of the Manager
  • Promote and market the facility to prospective residents and their representatives by providing tours and facility information
  • Complete all Foundation paperwork and reporting requirements in a clear, concise, and timely manner
  • Ensure that the facility and resident health-related equipment is maintained to organizational standards


Other Duties:

  • The following duties may be required in emergency situations or training purposes:
    • Distributing medications following the Foundation's Medication Assistance Program (MAP) Procedure
    • Administering insulin and/or other injections
    • Delivering intravenous medication
    • Providing direct health care and/or support to residents with housekeeping, laundry services, meal preparations, meal service, and clean-up
    • Providing personal care such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and other tasks as detailed in the care plan
    • Providing a variety of therapeutic and recreational activities that promote and enhance the independence model
    • Assisting with mobilization as required: bed transfers, lifting, turning, and walking
    • Responding to emergency calls from residents and taking appropriate action
  • Other duties as required


Education/Training Requirements:

  • 4 year degree minimum education 
  • Successful completion of an approved nursing education program; baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred
  • Active registration with CARNA or willingness and ability to transition to CARNA from another approved Canadian registered nursing association
