Department of Paediatrics, Western University, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry


The Department of Paediatrics, Children's Hospital, London Health Sciences Centre and Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University, is seeking a fully certified Clinical Geneticist. The Medical Genetics Program of Southwestern Ontario is a comprehensive clinic, providing genetic assessments and counselling in general pediatric and adult, prenatal, metabolics, newborn screening, and cancer genetics, with outreach clinic in Windsor, Ontario.  Medical geneticists also interact within multidisciplinary teams dedicated to specific genetic disorders, such as cystic fibrosis, cardiac arrhythmias, neurofibromatosis, neurometabolics, and Rett syndrome.  The Medical Genetics Program serves the southwestern Ontario population of about 1.5 million, and works closely with the Maternal-Fetal Medicine and the Oncology programs of London Health Sciences Centre.  The program is supported by full biochemical, molecular, cytogenetics, and maternal serum screening laboratory services.  We are a Centre of Excellence for enzyme replacement therapy for inborn errors of metabolism.

Candidates for this position must have an MD or equivalent degree and must be eligible for licensing in the Province of Ontario.  Subspecialty certification in Medical Genetics from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists or equivalent is required.  The successful candidate will be a Clinician Teacher, and hold a full-time Limited Term Clinical Academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor, or a Continuing Clinical Academic appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, depending upon qualifications and experience at the time of appointment.  Successful candidates will have a keen interest in academic medicine, the ability to collaborate effectively with all other members of the health care team and office staff, and will be expected to participate in team-based health care and teaching, both at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.  The successful candidate will also be expected to supervise graduate trainees. 


Compensation for this position will be primarily composed of an alternative funding plan and academic salary. The anticipated start date for this position is to be negotiated.
