ACADEMIC PHYSICIAN - GERIATRICIAN

Position start date: August 1, 2018

The Department of Internal Medicine, College of Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Manitoba, and the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority Medicine Program invite applications for a geriatrician, commencing August 1, 2018. Currently, there are five geographic full-time physicians within the Section. 

This is a geographic, full-time, contingent position commencing August 1, 2018, or as soon thereafter as possible, for a term of 2 years, renewable upon favourable review. Salary and rank will be dependent upon qualifications and experience. Physicians may be eligible for a recruitment incentive. Please contact physicianrecruitment@wrha.mb.ca for further information. 

Candidates must have senior specialty qualifications in Geriatric Medicine in the country of current practice and must be eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba. Certification in Geriatric Medicine by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada is preferred. 

The candidate would be joining an established geriatric program, which is the oldest section of geriatrics in the country, and is home to an extensive clinical program including Geriatric Day Hospitals, inpatient Geriatric Assessment Units, and home visiting teams. 

The University of Manitoba is a major research university located in the city of Winnipeg. Winnipeg is the largest city in the Province of Manitoba and one of the most culturally diverse cities anywhere. More than 100 languages are represented, and Winnipeg is well known for its cultural achievements and flourishing arts scene. The city is home to the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, symphony, opera, theatre, and ethnic festivals. Besides supporting professional hockey, football, and baseball teams, the region provides ample opportunities for outdoor recreation in all seasons. The Winnipeg housing market is one of the most favorable in Canada.
