Tenure-Track Faculty Position

Open to rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor

Canada Research Chair Tier 2 in Breast Cancer Pathology for eligible candidate

Faculty of Medicine – Department of Pathology 

The Canada Research Chair (CRC) is also open to internal candidates who already hold a tenure-track or tenured faculty position at McGill University.

Position Description

Established in the year 1892, the Department of Pathology at McGill University has been one of most academic pathology departments in North America. In order to continue meeting its mission in leading biomedical discovery and improving the wellbeing of society, the department has set a new direction of research focusing on high fatality disease, such as pancreatic cancer, brain tumor, and ischemic diseases.  The Department of Pathology is currently inviting applications from scientists with excellence in biomedical research to be considered for a tenure track faculty position in the field of biomedical research at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. The successful candidate will be expected to be at the forefront of molecular genetics, bioinformatics, genomics, proteomics, cancer immunology, immunotherapy and/or other updated technologies.

McGill University is situated in the heart of downtown Montreal, one of the most cosmopolitan and dynamic cities in North America, and the extensive campus is located at the edge of splendid Mount Royal. The Department of Pathology research laboratories are located on campus, and at the Research Institutes of the McGill University Health Centre and other McGill Teaching Hospitals.

If the successful candidate satisfies the specific eligibility conditions of the program, the candidate may be supported by the University for nomination to a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Breast Cancer Pathology research, which provides protected time for research within a full-time academic appointment.

Tier 2 Chairs are for emerging researchers (individuals who are no more than 10 years from having earned their highest degree). However, career interruptions (e.g. maternity or parental leave, extended sick leave, clinical training, family care, etc.) may be taken into consideration using the Tier 2 justification process  to review the candidate’s eligibility. Potential applicants who are more than 10 years from their highest degree with career interruptions may contact the institution to have their eligibility reviewed through the Tier 2 justification process. Job Duties

The successful candidate will be expected to conduct vigorous leading-edge research enhancing our existing efforts in the field of biomedical research involving high fatality diseases. He/she will be expected to lead an independent research program and to obtain external funding from peer-reviewed agencies. The candidate is expected to be actively involved in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission and to participate in the academic life of the department via involvement with teaching and supervision of graduate students and residents, mentorship of fellows and trainees, collaboration in research, service in academic, research and administrative committees, and attendance at departmental events, such as seminars and special workshops.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Applicants should have a PhD with a minimum of two years post-doctoral training in a related biomedical field. Demonstrated ability to independently manage a research program with a capacity for fostering collaborations and working collaboratively with other departmental members. Applicants should be experienced in applying for research grants with an excellent track record in obtaining grants from peer-reviewed agencies. Applicants should also possess excellent leadership skills, strong communication and writing skills, and a good track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals. French language skills, though not essential, will be considered an asset. 

Candidates who do not satisfy the CRC eligibility criteria for a Tier 2 chair are nonetheless invited to apply for the position.
