Job Description

Lecturer/Assistant Professor - Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Specialist

Department of Medicine, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, University of Toronto,

The Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R), Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (SHSC), St. John’s Rehab (SJR) campus and the Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Toronto are seeking a full-time physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist. The successful applicant must be eligible for a Full-time Clinical academic appointment with an academic position description of either Clinician Teacher or Clinician in Quality and Innovation at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto. It is expected that the position will be approximately 50-75% clinical and 25-50% teaching, quality improvement/research, and administration. Expected start date is July 1, 2018 or shortly thereafter.

We are seeking a physician who will foster excellence in specialized rehabilitation. Candidates with broad clinical and research interests related to PM&R and particular interests including, but not limited to, trauma and injury, quality and safety, rehabilitation outcomes, clinical epidemiology and health services will be considered. Academic experience as demonstrated by publications in leading journals, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades will be an asset. Advanced training and evidence of scholarship is a requirement for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. Responsibilities will include excellence in clinical care (inpatient consultation and outpatient clinics) and clinical teaching, as well as active participation in research.

The successful candidates must hold an MD degree, have, or be eligible for, certification in PM&R by the Royal College, or equivalent, and have, or be eligible for, licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

Remuneration will be between the range of $250,000 - $300,000 (estimate based on fee-for-service billings) commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will be eligible for membership in the Sunnybrook Department of Medicine Association through which clinical billings and benefits will be administered. The candidate will be able to participate in the department’s group medical, dental and life insurance benefit plans.

The Division of PM&R at the University of Toronto is a strong academic program with over 50 faculty members and 20 residents, and with programs extending across the Greater Toronto Area. The division is building an energetic program in PM&R with academically focused faculty members at SHSC. This position will be based at St. John’s Rehab (SJR) hospital, which is part of SHSC. Inpatient rehabilitation at SJR operates under a hospitalist model whereby hospitalists (usually family medicine practitioners) care for patients’ medical issues and physiatrists address rehabilitation issues. Outpatient opportunities also exist. There are a wealth of academic opportunities in collaboration with clinician scientists and investigators in areas such as trauma, critical care, orthopedics, and outcomes research.

Applications will be accepted until April 1, 2018, or until the position is filled. Should you be interested in this opportunity, please forward your curriculum vitae and names and addresses of three (3) referees to:
