POSITION SUMMARY:
The Human Resources Business Partner - Site provides advice, guidance and support for all HR functions to achieve Procon’s goals with and through its greatest asset – its people. Working with the skilled HR team, this role is hands-on and provides full cycle Human Resources site-based support to our site leadership team, employees, and union partners. RESPONSIBILITIES:
We have an opportunity for a full-time Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) to join our project site located in Northern B.C. This is a camp-based position, with a rotation of two (2) week on / two (2) week off, with an 11-hour daily schedule. Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources, the HRBP will be responsible for partnering with and delivering all HR functions to site based leadership and employees on matters including: policies, procedures, labour relations, performance management, and legislative adherence.
Specific responsibilities are:
EMPLOYEE RELATIONS/LABOUR RELATIONS:
- Provides employee/labour relations support including administration of grievances and arbitration files in a professional and confidential manner.
- Interprets collective bargaining agreement and other legislated requirements, ensuring compliance and adherence with both in-scope and out-of-scope employees
- Keeps current and ensures compliance with changes to legislation such as Human Rights Act, Privacy Act, Employment Standards, and Health and Safety legislation
- Develop and maintain productive relations with union representatives to ensure sustainable business operations and results.
- Participate in the investigation and resolution of complex employee issues and support site leadership through performance management and employee concerns.
- Leads the site’s non-occupational return to work process and support the benefits administration and communication process
- Partner with the business and model a coaching philosophy that drives a performance culture, aligned with Procon values and behaviours, throughout the business.
SITE HR GUIDANCE:
- Champion Inclusion and Diversity initiatives at the mine sites in partnership with corporate and site leadership team. Promotes a companywide, inclusive culture between internal and external business partners, including leadership, employees, departments, clients and joint venture partners.
- Work with the senior recruiter to find key talent and build bench strength, including expanding our relationships with our Indigenous partners to enhance Procon’s brand and recruitment efforts.
- Prepare HR reports when required and facilitate site HR program updates and training
- Present HR-related information at crew line-up meetings
- Promote proactive safety behaviours
- Support visible and cost-effective learning and development initiatives to meet the needs of the workforce
- Communicate with the employees regarding functional health and wellness by gathering the relevant information for the initial support of short-term disability (STD) claims
- Work with third party disability case manager and/or rehabilitation specialist(s) to design probable return to work (RTW) plans as required
- Complete, record, and deliver all STD and LTD notifications to the payroll department and ensure the HR Manager is aware of submission for follow-up and preparation of employees for early & safe return to work and alternate work opportunities
- Resolve the return-to-work (RTW) issues with case managers at Canada Life and rehabilitation specialists, and notifying payroll and HR superintendents concerning STD and LTD claims
- Use data from SAP to develop action plans to address areas of concern such as diversity, skills gaps, aging workforce, and voluntary terminations
- Monitor employee attendance and work with supervisors to initiate coaching and/or corrective actions as required
- Perform additional responsibilities related to the Business Partner, Human Resources, as required or as assigned by the Manager, HR

QUALIFICATIONS / EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree of HR Management or Psychology, Business Administration or Commerce, focusing on Human Resources or Industrial Relations specialization, or a related discipline
- HR designation, or in progress is considered an asset
- Minimum of five (5) years of hands-on HR experience in a unionized environment
- Cross-cultural awareness with an understanding and sensitivity of the challenges associated with differences in cultural and economic backgrounds
- Experience in mining, or a remote fly-in/fly-out project experience, is a strong asset
- Proficient in MS Office products including Microsoft Teams and One View reports
- Experience with ERP considered a strong asset
- Maintains a high level of confidentiality and professionalism
