New employees must provide documentation/proof of full COVID-19 vaccination status, a 2-step TB screening, as well as proof of immunity to measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella (chickenpox) prior to their start date at St. Mary’s General Hospital. Staff will require clearance from Employee Health and Wellness before they are able to begin any position within SMGH.
Position Summary :
The Stores Clerk is responsible for the efficient ordering and stocking of items in designated areas throughout the hospital. This will involve counting/scanning assigned areas for stock and placing orders with our external warehouse, using a scanning device based on the minimum and maximum inventory levels, agreed upon with each ward. Items that are not on our Warehouse Top-Up System will be ordered by each ward through our internal requisitioning system and/or Purchase Order and it's the Stores Clerks responsibility to deliver the items when available to the designated wards in a timely fashion.
Position Requirements:
- Grade 12 or equivalent; Preference will be given to candidates who have completed community college courses in Materials Management
- Minimum of 3 years recent Materials Management related experience; Hospital Materials Management experience preferred
- Excellent organizational, planning, critical thinking and interpersonal skills are essential
- Ability to make quick mental calculations to assist in receiving documentation
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are required
- Strong WHMIS understanding
- Strong Computer Literacy
- Experience and demonstrated ability to utilize a computerized Materials Management system
- Operation of fax machine, photocopier, computer and printer is required
- Must have physical fitness suitable to perform the manual tasks and the bending, lifting, standing and walking required in this position. Periodic requirement to handle weights of approximately 15 kg from floor level to carts to shelves
- Must have positive work record; good attendance record is essential
- Must be willing to work shifts and weekends
- Successful applicant must be able to wear safety shoes
Position Responsibilities:
- Provide relief coverage for the shipper/receiver and other Stores Clerks as required
- Ensure product rotation on items that have expiry dates to minimize wastage
- Assist other team members with duties as required
- Communicate back order, substitutions, etc. to departments as they happen to ensure up to date communication. Periodically Run par Analysis reports to review with the Resource Nurse to ensure we are maximizing our inventory levels and not carrying excess inventory.
- Process approved changes including the movement of stock, changes to min/max quantities, locations, etc. and relabel bins/locations as required.
- Maintain clean, sanitize and organized Cart Bins
- Other duties as assigned

- WHMIS/MSDS manuals
