GENERAL MANAGER
The Uprising is seeking a confident, dynamic, engaging, get-stuck-in, always-calm-under-pressure Manager, to elevate and charge forward the operation of its two bakery cafes - located in downtown Canmore and downtown Banff.
The successful candidate will be hungry for a new challenge, will thrive working within a locally owned, independent company, and be a seasoned leader - able to recruit, train, inspire, and nurture our on-floor team of baristas, servers, and pastry chefs. As a passionate hospitality manager, they will have a thirst for all-things food & beverage (with previous bakery / bakery café experience considered an asset) and will be driven to create and consistently deliver a high level of guest experiences.
The General Manager - Bake Shops, will be responsible for executing on our company vision, ensuring the smooth running of the daily Bake Shop operation, implementing new initiatives as it relates to sales and marketing, as well as taking on multi-layered projects that drive increased revenues, reach new customers, deliver efficiencies, and continually evaluate the guest experience across the two shop locations. As the gatekeeper of quality, customer satisfaction, and operation excellence across both our locations, they will be a vital part of steering the future success of The Uprising Bake Shops, and will be expected to contribute creative ideas, seek solutions, lead by example, and will be just as content getting stuck in on the floor with the team as they are in strategy meetings.
Required Experience, Ideal Qualities and Qualifications:
· 3-5 years’ experience managing a F&B operation / hospitality space
· Hospitality Management qualifications considered an asset
· Proven track record of successfully leading a diverse team, including the delivery of training and careful monitoring of standards
· A strong understanding of the hospitality industry, the “business” of a food operation, and how to optimize the operation for increased revenue - seizing opportunities and being able to execute these into the operation effectively
· Strong problem-solving and an ability to remain calm under pressure
· Effective project management skills: an excellent organizer, including the ability to demonstrate the successful introduction of initiatives as a true leader, bringing together a team and delegating tasks appropriately to achieve a common goal
· Confidence to work independently as well as with peers, be creative, and inspire others
· A collaborative, sensitive, mindful, and positive work approach – with an openness to always learn as well as lead
· Food Handling and ProServe certification a bonus
· Flexibility to work on holidays and weekends
What You Can Expect / Typical Duties:
- To oversee the day-to-day operations of two bakery café locations, maintaining high levels of quality, professionalism, and attention to detail at all times
- To lead by example, garnering a strong and supportive culture across the two shops and positively guiding the entire team to consistently deliver to brand standards of guest experience - including overseeing all in-store training
- Actively participate in the mentorship and support of all team members
- To be an active guardian of the “Bake Shop brand” on the ground; how the shops look and feel, and are presented to the guest at all times – down to the details
- To be point on improving efficiencies across the board; you’ll be super comfortable with inventory management processes, overseeing expenses and keeping to an operational budget, tracking waste, and able to make savvy suggestions for improvements at every step
- To be point on all customer relations, charged with ensuring guest satisfaction and driving repeat custom / guest loyalty, including the effective management of any complaints, and leading on any relevant sales & marketing initiatives
- To help create and introduce operational best practices and guest experience guidelines internally, and ensure these become second nature within the team
- To actively build relationships and partnerships with neighbour brands, suppliers, community members and organizations
- To contribute to seasonal menu ideas, new product offerings, and customer experiences that perfectly align with The Uprising brand
- To prepare for and contribute to weekly and monthly operations / strategy meetings with Ownership, armed with ideas, stats, sales forecasts, and an openness to develop fresh concepts and solutions to any challenges / opportunities that arise
- To work closely with Ownership and fellow members of Management, to confidently and enthusiastically take on - and help shape - new special projects as required
