Heavy Metal Equipment & Rentals is accepting resumes for an EXPERIENCED Working Lead Hand, Red Seal/Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technician for our crew at the Blackwater Mine, British Columbia. The Lead Hand will be motivated, committed and want to grow with us.
Lead Hand HETs at Blackwater will earn $53.59 - 56.41/hour as a BASE rate (NEW!). The regular scheduled rotation allows for 80 hours of regular + 88 hours of overtime.
+ $2/hour for lead hand duties
+ $1,000/month Commuter Supports

Lead Hands will assist the Maintenance Supervisors while providing hands-on technical support to the maintenance workforce to ensure tasks are completed to Heavy Metal's standards of quality, safety and efficiency.

The Job
- 12 hour shifts, 14 on followed by 14 off
- Provide direction of maintenance repairs to technicians
- Assist with daily tasks/repairs as required by maintenance personnel and regular technician duties
- Mentor technicians to ensure repairs and maintenance are completed without the need for re-work
- Complete job scope reviews
- Assist in the maintenance of shop/facilities/tooling by holding technician's accountable for housekeeping, reporting deficiencies and ensuring broken tools are repaired/replaced
- Plan ahead for upcoming problems or opportunities and take appropriate action
- Be thorough in accomplishing a task through concern for all areas involved
- Create an atmosphere where timely, high-quality information flows smoothly
What We Need From YOU:
- A desire to make a difference and take pride in your work
- Ability to champion a strong safety culture
- A minimum of 5 years' of experience, in a mining environment, as a Red Seal Heavy Equipment Technician
- A minimum of 2 years' experience in a leadership/supervisory position
- A minimum of 3 years experience, particularly with dozers, haul trucks, shovels and excavators of all major brands such as CAT, John Deere, Hitachi, Komatsu
- Construction and mining experience preferred
- Excellent troubleshooting and technical skills
- Ability to provide direction of maintenance and repairs to technicians and welders
- Ability to follow and implement policies and procedures
- Superior mechanical aptitude
- Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices
- Collaborative communication style at all levels of the organization demonstrating an open, honest and consistent approach to working with others
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Physical strength (ability to lift and manage 50 pounds)
- Must be able to complete a Respirator Fit test and don a mask at any time while at work, which also means compliance with facial hair requirements to ensure a complete seal for the mask
As part of our Hiring Process, YOU will be asked to:
- Provide a minimum of a Class 5 Driver's License with Air Brakes and clean Driver's Abstract
- Provide a criminal record check
- Complete drug and alcohol screening with a negative result
- Complete a fitness evaluation related specifically to your position
- Provide copies of current certifications (if you do not have any of the training required to be on site, we will provide it for you)
- Comply with federal, provincial and Heavy Metal/client worksite requirements regarding COVID-19
