Post-Doctoral Fellowship for Economist to Study Open Science Partnerships in Translational Neuroscience starting in Fall 2023 at McGill University. The selected Fellow is expected to be the lead or a co-author on research publications and will have the ability to develop his/her/their own projects.
We are looking for a full-time postdoctoral fellow to lead economic and quantitative analyses of an Open Science Partnership (OSP) at McGill’s Faculty of Law. Salary would depend on qualifications and experience, but we expect it would be set at approximately $75,000 per year plus benefits during the holding of the fellowship. In OSPs, actors/stakeholders typically engage extensively and collaboratively, openly sharing all data, tools, knowledge, and materials across all members of the partnership. A key challenge for OSPs is to understand the incentives available or that can be created to encourage firms to take health interventions to market.
The selected fellow would report to Prof. Richard Gold at McGill Law but contribute to a larger inter-institutional and transdisciplinary research team that includes Co-PIs, Richard Gold (Professor, Faculty of Law & Director of Centre for Intellectual Property Policy, McGill University) and Jacqueline Sullivan (Associate Professor, Rotman Institute of Philosophy, Western University), in partnership with Jonathan Kimmelman (Professor, Biomedical Ethics and Social Studies of Medicine & Department of Equity, Ethics, and Policy, McGill University). The successful candidate will have demonstrated expertise in economics and quantitative methods related to health innovation, health regulation, intellectual property, and/or finance. Experience with mixed-methods qualitative research would be an asset as would proficiency in both English and French.
The team is part of a novel paradigm-shifting preclinical platform aimed at neurodegenerative disease drug development called TRIDENT (Translational Initiative to DE-risk NeuroTherapeutics). TRIDENT brings together a group of diverse stakeholders from across Canada and internationally including experts in cellular and animal models of neurodegeneration, clinical neurology, cognition, imaging, open science and science policy, epistemology, ethics, law, and GBA+ studies, working across disciplinary and institutional boundaries to improve and accelerate preclinical assessments of candidate molecules for treating neurodegenerative disease.
The position is funded through a New Frontiers in Research Fund Transformation Grant, whose Network PI is Ravi Menon (Professor, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western) (

). The position is for a term of one-year, with possible renewal for up to 3 years, conditional on the availability of funding and performance. Candidates must, at the time of appointment, have a PhD in Economics or a related field.
The position will be held at McGill University and will involve some travel both in Canada and potentially internationally. Non-Canadian residents or citizens will need to obtain a visa as described here:
