POSITION TITLE:
Medical Laboratory Technologist
LOCATIONS:

CLASSIFICATION:
Part Time Permanent Evening
COMPENSATION:
As per Collective Agreement
WORKING SCHEDULE:
Wednesday to Friday, 4:00pm to 11:30pm
(42 hours bi-weekly)
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs a variety of routine laboratory procedures to obtain data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease in the Histology lab.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Retrieve specimens from Specimen Processing and prepare them for accessioning.

Opens, separates, numbers, and arranges Histology specimens for laboratory examination & processing.

Sets up and operates laboratory equipment in preparation for processing specimens & for preparing & staining slides
-
Prepares chemical solutions as required.

Maintain accurate records for all test and control results.

Performs routine maintenance of laboratory equipment (daily/weekly/monthly) & documents the completion of each task on the appropriate form(s)

Ensure all equipment is operating and appropriate QC is performed

Perform bench work according to daily schedule or as otherwise needed.

Follow SOP’s as per specific department manual for all procedures.

Demonstrates procedures to newly hired Technologists, Technicians and other staff as necessary.

Maintains confidential and accuracy of appropriate documents.

Required to observe all safety precautions in the performance of all duties.

Maintains a tidy and clean work area.

Informs Lab Manager or Charge Technologist of all complaints made by physicians or patients.

Perform other duties as required/assigned.
SKILLED KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge
-
Medical Laboratory Technologist registered in good standing with and CSMLS & CMLTM.
-
Medical terminology an asset.
-
Experience working in Histology preferred
Technical Skills
-
Previous experience with accessioning & processing Histology specimens is an asset
-
Microtomy, embedding and Special stain experience preferred
-
Experience operating and maintaining laboratory equipment
-
Knowledge of Histology is an asset

Ability to function in a fast-paced environment & take instruction from senior staff/ supervisor/ manager.
