Summary
The Chemical Technologist independently carries out routine tests as part of the scientific team. The Chemical Technologist provides all the required technical support to enable the laboratory to function effectively whilst adhering to correct procedures and health and safety guidelines. The work plays an important role in the foundation stages of research and development (R&D) and in scientific analyses and investigation.
Responsibilities
- Prepare samples: melt glass (must be comfortable with high temperatures and follow safety protocols); polish glass, crush powders, weigh powders
- Perform laboratory tests: density, mechanical properties, dissolution of glass in water, wet chemistry as well as help set-up agriculture tests like soil columns and plant growth trials
- Prepare reports with reliable data, including making Figures and Tables, error analysis
- Interpret results based on findings, search literature, formulate new ideas & experiments
- Use latest methodologies and best practices, and improve current practices
- Adhere to correct company protocols, lab procedures and safety policies
- Ability to follow instructions from supervisors
- Ability to finish the project on time
- Prepare progress reports: Document all activities and maintain and track results, Summarize project results
- Maintain cleanliness, orderliness and supplies
- Help with administrative tasks when needed
- Request or acquire equipment or supplies necessary for the project
- Attend project meetings
Education and Qualifications
- Chemical Technologist Diploma
- Computer literacy: Excel, Word, PowerPoint. Website management skills a plus
- Laboratory, independent research, and technical writing experience is preferred, but not necessary.

We will train the right candidate. This is an 18 month contract with the possibility of extension.
