Nenan Dane zaa Deh Zona Family Services (Nenan) is seeking a highly motivated and dynamic individual to join our team as an Cultural Connections Coordinator. As an integral member of a multi-disciplinary team, the Cultural Connections Coordinator will support children and youth living in MCFD care in accessing opportunities for cultural exposure.
Responsibilities:
· Receiving and following up referrals
· Developing Cultural Plans of Care with youth/child’s care team
· Establishing primary relationships with youth and their caregivers
· Supporting and advocating for youth
· Coordinating cultural connections for youth in care
· Facilitating youth integration with family, community, and cultural activities
· Assisting in identifying family and community relationships
· Supporting youth/child identified relationships
· Facilitating one-on-one support sessions with youth in care
· Coordinating and facilitating Striding Forward youth in care life skills group
· Identifying and involving Elders, Knowledge Keepers, family and community members in TOM processes
· Providing cultural programs for children-in-care, their caregivers, relevant family and community members
· Supporting Permanency Planning with youth in care to strengthen healthy individuals for independence while maintaining their identity and connection to their community
· Other related duties
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
· Proficient with MS office.
· Ability to plan, organize and schedule work flow to meet project deadlines
· Excellent communication and written skills
· Demonstrated ability to work with a team.
· Good interpersonal skills
· Capable of working extra hours whenever necessary
· Capable of giving spontaneous ideas whenever required
· Capable of handling difficult situations
· Experience working with multiple community social service agencies
· Experience working with First Nations as well as knowledge of First Nations Health issues.
· Knowledge and familiarity with northern and rural communities, the population to be served and First Nations, Metis and Aboriginal cultures.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
· Bachelor of Social Work, Bachelor of Child and Youth Care; Bachelor in First Nations Studies; cultural knowledge or a combination of post-secondary education, and related work experience
· Awareness of Indigenous culture and issues affecting Indigenous families and communities
· Knowledge and experience working within northern and rural communities
· Develop and maintain working knowledge and relationships with natural partners and supports in the communities
· Experience working with children in MCFD care
· Understanding of the Child Procection System
· Understranding of the CFCSA
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
· Strong collaboration skills
· The ability to work independently and in a team
· A valid BC class 5 driver’s license and criminal record check are mandatory
· Criminal Record Check will be required.
Job Types: Permanent, Full-time
Salary: $22.00-$26.50 per hour
