Position summary
The lab technician is responsible to carry out lab maintenance duties as directed by the Principal Investigator. The lab technician also plans and conducts experiments for research purposes in addition to assisting others in technical aspects of selected research projects, and assisting manuscript writing and grant applications.
Responsibilities:
- The technician is responsible for carrying out independent research projects using routine/ moderately complex procedures.
- Uses a variety of laboratory equipment.
- Experimental techniques include molecular biology (PCR, RT-PCR, cDNA sequencing), biochemical techniques (Western blotting), histology, cell culture techniques, microscopy (confocal and two-photon laser), and work with mouse models of diseases.
- Compiles data and carries out preliminary data analysis and maintains lab notebook.
- Presentation of data at weekly lab meetings and assisting manuscript writing and grant applications.
- Provides training and assists others in basic laboratory procedures and equipment.
- Prepares and maintains a variety of reagents and/or solutions in the laboratory including various database upkeeps.
- Maintains and operates laboratory equipment (e.g. confocal/two-photon laser microscope, cell incubators, PCR thermocyclers, and cryostat) and orders laboratory supplies.
- Maintains mouse colonies and assists writing of animal protocols.
- Responsible for shared lab duties (i.e. on rotation basis) and departmental responsibilities (i.e. maintaining assigned equipment and ordering supplies).
Qualifications:
- Minimum of BSc in a relevant field;
- 1 year experience in laboratory setting in Genetics, Cell Biology, Physiology, Molecular Biology, or Biochemistry.
- Experience with animal models preferred.
