Position Description

Advances in HIV treatment have meant that among the 1.5 million children born globally to women with HIV, most now remain uninfected. The Kids Imaging and Neuro-Development (KIND) study aims to examine brain development and long-term behavioural and cognitive function of children that are HIV exposed and uninfected (HEU). The study hopes to address clinically important knowledge gaps that affect the long-term health for these children. Funded by a CIHR Team Grant, our team is performing a multi-site prospective clinical study to conduct cognitive, behavioural, and brain imaging (MRI and MR spectroscopy) investigations of 180 children who are HEU and 65 children who are HIV unexposed to better characterize overall brain function and explore links between brain function and behavioural deficits and changes in specific brain regions.

We are looking for a postdoctoral research fellow to join our team to analyze and interpret the MRI and MR spectroscopy data acquired as part of the KIND study. The successful candidate will work closely with Dr. John Sled, a SickKids Senior Scientist and expert on MRI, as well as a team of investigators from SickKids, University Health Network, and Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) with a broad range of backgrounds including infectious disease, reproductive biology, psychology, neuroscience, and neurology.

Here’s What You’ll Get To Do

Work with an interdisciplinary team to analyze and interpret a rich MRI dataset that includes high-resolution anatomical, resting-state fMRI, multi-shell diffusion, quantitative T1, and MR spectroscopy data.
Disseminate research and clinical findings through publications, presentations, and seminars.

Here’s What You’ll Need

PhD from a recognized academic institution in a relevant area (e.g., neuroscience).
Strong publication record and an interest in neurodevelopmental disorders.
Experience with MRI data analysis
Knowledge of statistics and statistical analysis tools (experience with R preferred)
Working familiarity with linux / unix an asset
Motivation and the ability to work independently.
Strong communications skills.
