Lab Technician
Job Summary:
This position includes working full time in our IVF lab and assisting in our semen production lab performing all responsibilities and duties associated with in vitro production of bovine embryos and cryopreservation of bovine semen. The candidate will undergo a training period beginning with a observation/ laboratory training period followed by a technical training period. Duration of training is dependent on candidates’ progression. During this time, the candidate will be evaluated for their compatibility with our team and receive training in our specific laboratory procedures. Due to the nature of lab work, alternating weekend, holiday, and some early morning hours will be required. However, these duties are shared among all laboratory staff and there may be some flexibility in holiday scheduling. This is a one-year maternity leave contract position with the potential for permanent employment at the end of the contract.
Lab Technician Responsibilities:
- Oocyte searching and grading for maturation.
- Semen preparation for In Vitro Fertilization
- Embryo stripping and culture
- Assist in maintaining semen and embryo inventory.
- Embryo grading and freezing
· Semen extension and analysis
· Semen packaging and cryopreservation
· Final packing of frozen semen
- Maintain accurate embryo production reports
- Record Keeping and data entry
- Assist in quality control and lab cleanliness
Education and Qualifications/ Skills Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in animal science, biology or related field or veterinary technician
- Very strong attention to detail
- Ability to work at a microscope for long periods of time
- Excellent organization and time management skills
- Basic computer skills (MS Word, MS excel, email)
- Effective communication skills
