POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Director, Child-Youth-Family Programs & Counselling Services, the Associate Director of Child Care Services is responsible for leading the development and expansion of licensed childcare sites while establishing and sustaining dynamic learning environments for children and staff alike. This position oversees the coordination and delivery of innovative licensed early childhood and out of school care learning programs and ensures that all centers comply with licensing regulations. The Associate Director provides leadership and support to site supervisors of our diverse childcare teams and ensures consistent quality care and programing are thriving throughout our centers.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Management

In collaboration with the Director, develop, implement and oversee the day-to-day operations of comprehensive, multi-location childcare programs and services that align with Beacon’s mission and values

Ensure compliance with regulatory licensed childcare requirements and early learning standards and practices

Define, develop and implement standards and practices to ensure innovative and consistent programming and service delivery models in all locations

Monitor and report on program effectiveness and make recommendations for improvements

In collaboration with site supervisors, establish programs and practices that are sensitive and respectful to the needs of each child, their abilities and their life experiences

Ensure that all sites promote and maintain a safe, positive, inclusive, respectful, stimulating and engaging environment for children and their diverse needs

Establish and implement processes and systems for licensing, registration, staff scheduling, parent communications and reporting at all sites
Leadership & Staff Development

Support effective and inclusive hiring practices that advance team diversity and reflect the communities we serve

Advise and mentor site supervisors, providing guidance on best practices in leadership, team management and decision making to deliver childcare programs to the highest standard

Provide leadership and guidance to a team of childcare site supervisors, to ensure best practice in hiring, training, and performance management of their teams

Foster a culture of professional growth and development among the staff, promoting continuous learning and shared learning outcomes which reflect and model best practices

Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with site supervisors to understand their challenges, provide guidance and assist in problem solving

Support site supervisors to enhance their leadership skills, communication, and conflict resolution abilities

Support ongoing staff development and team building by establishing learning objectives and plans for all teams, ensuring maintenance of professional development requirements and celebrating individual and team successes

Work alongside the People and Culture team to ensure program staff are valued, supported to reach their potential and respected for their diversity, responsibility and creativity

Budgeting and Resource management

In collaboration with the Finance team, develop and manage a multi-location childcare services budget ensuring efficient financial processes and allocation of resources

Identify potential funding opportunities to sustain and expand the programs

Establish and review purchasing practices for materials, equipment and supplies required for daycare operations
Community Engagement

Build strong partnerships and collaborate with the Provincial government, local governments communities, and organizations including First Nations, school districts, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Child and Family Development, and Island Health

Ensure early learning programs and services are aligned with and responsive to the specific needs of our community

Build relationships with educational institutions and community groups to market employment opportunities and build talent pools

Research, identify and evaluate potential locations for new centers, considering factors such as accessibility, safety and community demographics

Work with the communications team to enhance Beacons brand and presence in the community
QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or a related field
-
Certificate in Early Childhood Education (Infant Toddler Special Needs Designation an asset) with a recognized BC License to practice

Minimum of eight years of ECE teaching or related experience with at least three years in a leadership or management role

Valid First Aid certificate, as outlined by Child Care Regulations
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Strong knowledge of current BC Childcare Licensing Regulations and early learning practices-
Excellent communication (written & verbal) and interpersonal skills

Proven leadership and management skills in a collaborative and inclusive team environment

Ability to adapt to changing circumstances, manage multiple priorities, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment

Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office 365 suite of software, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Teams
